Rights

The purpose of government is to protect your rights.

All Men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--To secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

The US Constitution defines a government meant to protect your rights.

    Office holders swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
    The US constitution The US constitution includes the Bill Of Rights with these gems:

    I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
    II. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
    IV. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated.
    V...nor shall any person be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.
    IX.The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
    X.The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The Colorado Constitution further protects your rights.

    Recall. State officers may be recalled. Every elective public officer of the state of Colorado may be recalled from office at any time by the registered electors
    Tabor. Spending and revenue limits and the right to vote on any new imposes taxes.
    Inalienable rights. All persons have certain natural, essential and inalienable rights, among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying and defending their lives and liberties; of acquiring, possessing and protecting property; and of seeking and obtaining their safety and happiness.
    Marijuana. Medical and Personal use are allowed.
    Freedom of speech and press. No law shall be passed impairing the freedom of speech; every person shall be free to speak, write or publish whatever he will on any subject, being responsible for all abuse of that liberty; and in all suits and prosecutions for libel the truth thereof may be given in evidence, and the jury, under the direction of the court, shall determine the law and the fact.
